New Choices Rehabilitation Program

Cedar Springs Hospital is committed to ensuring that you receive the best possible care. To facilitate this, it is important you understand our program’s administrative process.

Safety is our first priority. We will ensure you are in a safe, comfortable environment as we begin to help you deal with your issues. Part of the safety requirements are having unit doors locked at all times. The staff will need to let you into and out of your closets and treatment areas. However, as this is a voluntary program, and you may request to leave anytime. Should you do so, your treatment team will want to discuss options with you to further support you recovery efforts.

Upon arrival, you will be assessed by one of our licensed behavioral health providers and then escorted to the unit where the nursing staff will orient you to the unit, inspect your belongings and provide you with the necessary reading materials. Within 24 hours, you will see a psychiatrist and a medical doctor who will address any medical issues and start you on medications as necessary. Patients will be able to smoke only once they have been seen by the psychiatrist. Within 72 hours, you will be assessed by a therapist who will complete a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and create an individualized treatment plan with you. You will see your therapist at least twice a week for an individual session and once a week for a family session.

We believe family is important to recovery, so if your family is not local, we can facilitate this via telephone. It may be with a spouse, family or even trusted friend.

During your stay, you will participate in a structured 7 day a week schedule which includes physical training, group therapy, individual therapy, Equine therapy, AA and psycho-education groups. We also have a community outing each weekend which is not limited to, but could include events such as hiking, bowling, fishing, watching a movie, or going to the zoo.

Cedar Springs Hospital is one of the few hospitals that also offers Virtual Reality Enhanced Exposure Therapy. Your therapist will create a scenario on the computer to help you manage triggers.

Visitation is allowed during the evening visitation hours. Visitors may bring personal belongings to you during this time and those belongings will also be inspected by staff to ensure your safety and recovery efforts.
